Plus 1 brings your eye to the main element, which is the chick.

2 doesn't do anything to balance the picture, it just gives it more space, which hardly seems like what you want with that type of design.

In my artistic opinion, option 1 causes the visual weight to rest on the left side of the composition, so option 2 actually does have balance. BFA-Illustration in full effect, nukkah.

If the black field in between the woman's arm and side wasn't just solid black, it would be perfect. That's probably why it looks awkward. When the logo is placed over that solid black field, it creates too much contrast with the right half of the piece which is primarily light colors; but, when the dark logo is placed in the upper right, it creates balance with the black field the best that it can, given the nature of the artwork.
