New site? Maybe some day.

In CT, specifically. I got laid off from my full-time job on friday, and the company that I was working for part-time went bankrupt a couple weeks ago. the part-time job was a freelance position, I wasn't technically an employee I guess, I would just work and they'd pay me. Since it supplemented my income though, I wanna find out if there's any way I can get more from my unemployment checks because of it.
I know it's a shot in the dark asking about this here, but I don't know where else to ask. I wanna be prepared when I hit the department of labor today. |

Unfortunately if you were being "contracted" by the company to work (ie. you weren't an employee) than you CANNOT collect anything. |
|
does that mean I can continue to work as an independent contractor and still collect what I was going to get anyway? |

I just re-read my original post and I realized how shady I made it sound. I worked as a photographer for the tribune. The tribune is the newpaper conglomerate that owns the hartford courant and a shitload of other newspapers, and they made waves when they bumbled their way into a bankruptcy a couple weeks ago.

I was contributing to this division of the tribune: www.metromix.com but that's dried up since the bankruptcy cut funding. The courant, however, picked me up from that division and they still have money to pay me. What I'm wondering is, whether or not I can freelance for the courant and still collect unemployment. |

i know it sucks and i've done it a thousand times |

I need to find a better newspaper to work for. One that doesn't go bankrupt. |
