New site? Maybe some day.

What's everyone using for gear these days? Bodies, lenses, bags, flashes, tripods, list em. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!
I AM THE GREATEST MATRIX THEMED WHINY POST BLACK METAL DOUCHEBAG OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
This is a dire message from the future:
There is a glitch in time, history is repeating itself, the only way for RTTP to stop this is to go back in time and stop Aril and Alex from their cocks rubbing on each other.

In the past week I've gotten:
-Canon 6d
-Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Lens
-Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens
Still need to get a wide angle lens, macro extension tube set, extra battery, bag, 64GB SD, and maybe an external mic and flash. |

-Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Lens ? the fuck?
why didn't you save the money and get a 50mm 1.8? |
don't get a 64GB card, get a few 16GB cards. so if one dies, you don't lose everything. |
I liked that the 40mm was a pancake form, and I got it for the same price as the 50mm. I also preferred the metal mount (better build quality, didn't want to deal with the 50mm sticking to the camera that I've read a lot of people experience) and the STM for quieter focus. Plus, I don't have a huge bokeh boner, so the 1 stop didn't make a difference to me. Also focuses closer than the 50mm.
I need a large card for raw HD video, planning to load up magic lantern once I've gotten the hang of the basics. Though maybe I'll get 2x32 instead

i hear this new nokia phone has 47 megaparcels? |
the difference between 1.8 and 2.8 is a stop and a half. |
yeah, I might get a gray box 50mm 1.8 for manual focus HD... I do like the 40mm as a walkaround lens though |
I would have gotten the 35mm f/1.8.
If you are going to get a 50mm manual, why not get a 55mm f/1.2? |

The 85mm 1.8 is nice to shoot with. |
he's shooting with an APS so 85mm would be way long.
the 55mm is an old lense. ebay. |
Personally I think you'd be better off with the 24-70 2.8 and call it a day. |
I have the 24-70, I love that lens. I was thinking of starting to shoot film again someday. |

6d is a full frame, not cropped.
I was thinking about getting the 24-105mm L lens with IS, reviews are saying it's sharper than the 24-70. The macro is a nice feature, but sharpness is more important. Have you had a chance to compare the two? |

Not to mention the 24-70 costs a kidney |

I don't shoot Canon. But I have a real hard time believing that lens is sharper than the 24-70. Highly doubtful. |

It is expensive, did you ever look on fred miranda? You can get good deals on used equipment. |
the 24-105 looks just plain awful at f2.8 |
Not paying 3x as much for 24-70 f2.8, going with the 24-105 f4 instead. hlrie: the 24-70 does have an advantage at 24mm but at 70mm the 24-105 beats it. It wasn't an easy decision, but then the price difference made it easier. And for a 1st gen 24-70 f2.8, its lack of IS compared to the 24-105 nullifies the one stop advantage in my book. |

Spoken like a true non-photographer. |
Yeah, I've really shown my true colors by not spending $2500 on a lens when I'm admittedly new to shooting DSLR. Pfft. I can always turn around and sell any of this stuff if I want to upgrade later. |

You don't really need image stabilization at that range btw but hey whatever you like. My opinion stands. 24-70 is a far superior lens. And in camera equipment you get what you pay for. |
every time I've gone with a non-2.8 lens when the 2.8 lens was available, I end up buying the crappier lens and then the better lens. |
Same. Learned my lesson pretty quick on that one. I'll never waste money doing that again. |
ditto... well, I still bought a 17-35, 15-30, 12-24 that were all subpar... but after that.
though the 15-30 and 12-24 are sort of in a world of their own. |
Have either of you ever dabbled in 3rd party lenses or do you stick to the make of your camera (Nikon)? |
Haven't used my 12-24 in ages. Might just sell it. The chromatic aborations on F4 lenses make me nuts.
No I haven't bought any 3rd party lenses. If I was going to I would stick with Sigma though. They did just come out with a 1.8 zoom that made me think about it. But.... |
I have a 24mm f1.8 that I need to start using more. |
Just picked up a Canon 580EX II today for $240 |
What do you guys use for a camera bag? Not interested in messenger or sling bag styles, I'd prefer a backpack. Something that can fit a full size tripod, or attach it on the back with straps. |
Don't need it, I can connect camera to phone if needed. |
ITT faggots not shutting up |
I use a Nikon D90 that I brought a few years ago, though I it cost me too much fucking money I got it spur of the moment, and have one of those metal cases to carry it in.
I want to buy a bigger lense to use but fuck, so expensive. |
Buy used on Craigslist dude |
I would never buy anything from Craigslist. The only person I really k of who used cl had nice used 70-200vr2 for a year or so until the police came after him cause it was stolen. Losing him all his money. |
I'm sure that happens but I've never had that issue with cl. Anyway, I bit on the 400 AW flipside. |
that is basically the same as the one I linked you. |
Aye, thanks. Wondering if I should go with a diffuser or not for the speedlite |

The flash comes with one, no? |
If I were you, I would start using the gear and learning instead of just buying crap you might not need. |
I'm not just buying random crap, I've actually been shooting a lot in different conditions, just haven't bothered posting the results online.
^flash on the left shows the built in slide-out diffuser and bounce card. Just wondering if you think there's any benefit to getting a slide-on diffuser to cut down harsh light. Not sure if tweaking the output settings on the speedlite is enough to avoid the harsh contrast I'm getting even with the built-in. |
AlAlex is the type of retard to buy a 40 string bass when he only needs 4, and every accessory for his new camera while still producing images his phone could have shot. |
Must be nice to afford such meaningless items. |
I'm just trying to make up for my small penis, leave me alone. |
idk.. I would grow into what you need instead of just buying things. If you think sept to now is a lof of time trying a lot of things, then buy better equipment rather than getting talent.
that piece of plastic is to make the light cover a larger area for wider lenses
The bounce card is junk. Just get a diffuser dome. You can get them for cheap. I think I got 3 of them for my sb-900 after I lost the original for $10. The original piece is $17 ea. |
Thanks, I'll get a cheap dome off ebay to play with. I've been learning photography prior to this gear purchasing blitzkrieg, anyone who knows me isn't new to me being a dork with a camera. It just wasn't a decent one until recent. |
You can make a bounce card out of $0.05 of materials at home but it's expensive to look like your hack ass has any idea what you're doing. |
A new photographer on the scene? Aaron...it's not you, it's me. |

Yeah, I could cut a solo cup but I was asking about the benefit of a diffuser, not a bounce card |
Those built in bounce cards are only supposed to put a catch light in someone's eyes and the panel is dumb as well. They are useless and I wish they didn't come on flashes. They have zero to do with diffusion.
IMO you should keep and use a piece of gear for a minimum of one year and use it constantly before you upgrade anything. |
It's Alex, putting the cart before the horse.
Good luck with the photography. |
As far as bags go, there are just tons. I have a Lowepro trekker but it's discontinued, at least the model I have. I never liked the weird opening thing on some bags. Like the flipside or the fastpacks in Lowepro. Get a cheap used one off of Adorama then not much of a loss if you don't love it. I have gotten bags for $40 off there in perfect condition just so I could see if I liked it before I spent 100's.
Thanks Hillarie, I read up about diffusers and I'm not gonna bother with them. Psyched about hitting the road next month and then waiting 3 months to go through the pictures. |
Not as psyched as my horse is to push that cart into aril |
