I need to try and hook my computer up to a 62" tv via s-video to play a movie I'm making for my grandparents 50th anniversary. I have a NVidia fx5500 that has a s-video output. If I rent a projection tv that has s-video inputs, is it as simple as hooking them up and changing my display properties from my dell to s-video? or is there a chance that this won't work and I'll run into problems?

it'll work, but the quality will be shitty

well, the video is nothing more than a picture slide show. It's basically about 300 pictures set to some big bands and johnny cash.

what is the interface on your FX5500, DVI? VGA? You can get an adapter or something and plug into the TV's HDMI port. Then you could at leaset get the picture at 720p... wait.. I guess you'd have to make sure your card was capable of doing 1280x720 for that to work.

it's VGA

How could I find out if it were capable of doing 1280x720?

I think it can, I just set my screen resolution to 1280x720 under the display properties. Is that my best bet for a better picture?

ahh good. That's probably the best bet. I think 720p would be better than svideo.

thanks for the advice. I will most definitely end up doing that if using s video will give me a shitty signal. I don't have a HDTV so I'm not used to the ridiculous picture quality. 720p will be killer compared to what I'm used to.

i use an svideo cable with an svideo-to-composite adapter and run it into my tv. Quality is pretty mint. It works for me. Granted i only have a 19inch regular def TV but i don't have any problems with it. If you're only doing this as a one time thing and super high quality isnt a big deal then i wouldnt go out and buy any massive converter boxes or anything. Just go with s-video. it'll look find if all you're doing is a picture slideshow kind of thing.

oh and you could also just burn this onto a dvd and play it through a regular set top box dvd player.

This is also true.
