tell me if I am going crazy... it feels like all the "newer" metal stuff that comes out and consists of members under the age of 25 is guilty of having the most boring vocal pattern ever where the dude starts almost every lyric on the 2nd beat of the bar....

i feel like a good amount is just shitty gay fallout from metalcore... all sorts of slightly-cheesy and really cheesy bands do it. converge, darkest hour, pig destroyer, basically ANY new-school mosh death metal band, basically every single Black Dahlia Murder-style god-awful knock-off band.

how the fuck did this start? does anyone understand me?

it's like vocalists are physically incapable of starting a phrase on the first beat of a bar. they always wait until the second....

sorry for being such a bitch, i'm just losing my mind after browsing for some bands on myspace....

just take two bars of any standard Slayer fast-thrash beat - that's 8 kicks and 8 snares at say, i dunno 240 bpm.....

these newer sucky vocalists seem to always fashion their patterns like this:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 | 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
..... "BLAH BLAH BLAH, | BLAH BLAH BLAAAAH"

or

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 | 5 - 6 - 7 - 8
...... "BLAH BLAH | BLAH BLAH BLAAAAH"

again, sorry for being annoying, the quirks of "modern" metal are pissing me off.

i guess the obvious lesson is to stick with rocking anything old and none of this new shit, but fuck man.....

shit, i fucked up the editing, here it is:

1...........2...........3...........4........... | 5...........6...........7...........8
_____"BLAH___BLAH__ BLAH,__ | BLAH__ BLAH__ BLAAAAH"

or

1...........2...........3...........4........... | 5...........6...........7...........8
_____"BLAH___BLAH__ _______ | BLAH__ BLAH__ BLAAAAH"

pig destroyer is cheesy? land on a cawk

toggletoggle post by timma at Oct 9,2008 10:17am
I think I understand what you're saying. Or, I'm completely confused. But I think it's more of the first, than the later. The reasoning, I'm not so sure of but I get your point.

toggletoggle post by fuckcock at Oct 9,2008 10:23am
well, i quite like pig destroyer but the saturation of stuff that has come after them has tainted my perception of them. actually, mainly just the vocals... the screaming, abandonment style.... aggh.

Why are you listening to that crap in the first place?
Music to suck cock to.

"Black Dahlia Murder-style god-awful knock-off band. "

hahahaha
Black Dahlia Murder is a fucking knock off/rip off band themselves.

toggletoggle post by fuckcock at Oct 9,2008 10:30am
good lord, i agree. sadly, via friends, i get more passive exposure than i'd like. the ideal amount, of course, being zero.

HAHAHA I do know exactly what you mean. Lamb of God does it all the time, too.

he's right. when i write i try to change things up, actually i take a lot of influence from Warrel Dane, even though our vocal styles are completely different. he writes the best patterns.

Putting effort into anything is for nerds.

toggletoggle post by fuckcock at Oct 9,2008 10:36am
man, no effort involved dude.... hahaha..... i'd kill just for some scumbag grunt on the first beat. just anything besides this hallmark-of-the-last-10-years-thing of waiting until the second beat. it's like a litmus test for any band to see if their influences stretch out to anything older or scummier.

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Oct 9,2008 10:36am
A) That's what you get for browsing myspace for bands, dude.

B) everyone under 25 should be killed

I agree.

All of the new stuff is deathcore, and it sounds like Skinless, unless it's of the even worse Necrophagist/Behemoth vein. Barfy!

toggletoggle post by fuckcock at Oct 9,2008 10:38am
this obviously excludes super underground grind, gore, crust, black metal etc. etc..

modern popular metal could increase its quality by at least 6% if it changed shit up more.

modern popular metal

saying those 3 words makes me gag.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Oct 9,2008 10:39am
It could increase its quality by ceasing to exist.

toggletoggle post by aril at Oct 9,2008 10:40am
I think it's hilarious that Drudkh became a myspace legend over night. They have at least 6+ myspaces dedicated to them.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 9,2008 10:41am
thread # 608945 on why myspace is the worst thing ever created.

toggletoggle post by fuckcock at Oct 9,2008 10:41am
true, but just let me bitch.

toggletoggle post by fuckcock at Oct 9,2008 10:43am
i'm just trying to save young impressionable kids everywhere from holding their vocals until the 2nd beat.

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Oct 9,2008 10:51am
Every subhuman who creates a Drudkh myspace creates a weapon against himself.
