Seagate 1.5TB for $105 from dell.
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/product...476-1225267-u21581t0f0fp17981c0s441
and then minus $60 code = 90K7$QNXLZM4BZ

Have they fixed the array/block write error problems with these yet? I would recommend against getting the internal 1.5s until they do. Stick with the 1TB internals or get an external.

No its not. But you'll save youself the headache of when these 1.5s fail on you. I bought 7 the other week (after purchasing 5 bads about a month ago) for my office and seagate is still pumping them out with bad blocks/write errors. Dudes need to learn how to low-level format at the factory.

they fixed the issues with a firmware fix. funny that you say the 1TB are "better" since the seagate 1TBs were reporting a 40% failure rate on the FWs that they had.

I had 2x1.5TB with fw SD17 that I upgraded to fw SD1A. I bought another 2x1.5TB and they came with a "good" firmware of CC1H (though CC1J is the one you really want).

and it's not cheaper for 750gb unless you get them wicked cheap. they are also older with and older manufacturing date (.10 technology not .11). Since they have been plagued with gunked heads from a breakdown in the disk protection layer on the platters.

Right now, the safest drive to get is a 1TB WD green drive. who would have ever EVER guessed that.

Also, if I were putting this into my RAID, 750GB would be far more expensive.
4x1.5TB + 1xRAID box
8x750 + 2xRAID box
which would be cheaper?

I didn't say what company ;p I personally prefer WD over seagate for the 1TBs.

ps: its about time they came out with that firmware fix.

so far in the "dead drives" I've had 3 WD 200GB, a couple IBM deskstar 60GB, a couple maxtor 60GB, all of my 100-120GB WD/maxtor, and then 10-ish 500GB. The 500GB are basically in 3rd WD/Seagate/maxtor.

Yea i've had equal amounts of problems throughout the years with each company. I've been using WD raptors for a while but maybe i'll throw a couple of these seagates into the mix now that the firmware fix is out.

And if your wondering I use 2x150GB raptors in my rig and 4xWD 1TBs in my file server I have set up.

don't they ship eitha 1 year warrenty

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Feb 5,2009 11:43am
with a*

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 5,2009 11:49am
which? Seagates are suppose to be 5 years, but these ones are 3 years.. hurmmmm.... WD's all come with 3 year warranties unless they are externals and then they have 1year. not sure about the raptors.

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Feb 5,2009 12:51pm
have you ever used the warranty? I never knew how to get myself a new drive... mine never seem to die.. I had an sata drive fail not too long ago but it still seems to work...

toggletoggle post by sxealex   at Feb 5,2009 12:52pm
ps most of mine are maxtor

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 5,2009 12:57pm
which is seagate.
I warranty drives all the time. I'm sending out a 500GB next time I get to the UPS store. my other ones that failed... well.. seagate claims they don't exist and I can't find emails with my orders so I'm SOL on those 2.

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at Feb 5,2009 8:57pm
WD > Seagate.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 5,2009 10:09pm
that is all fine and good to type, but you back it with nothing. facts smacks.

i have a 10GB maxtor thats still tickin, allthough its painfully slow. I went through 4 60GB western digitals in a year so i'm pretty much done with them. Right now i've got a 500GB Hitachi Deskstar thats just over a year old, we'll see how long that makes it. And i'm using a 160GB western digital that i found lyin around somewhere in my MythTV computer, only gets me something like 80 hours of recording but eventually i'll throw a bigger drive in there. Problem is the computer is IDE only and it doesnt really make much sense to put a sata board in there. So i gotta find the biggest IDE drive i can which is probably only 500GB and probably twice as expensive as a 1TB Sata drive.

you should mod that ps3 rev if you haven't yet and I don't mean with just that HD.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 6,2009 10:11am
I have a 60GB model... no way I'm doing anything to fuck with it.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Feb 6,2009 10:25am
its easier than you think but i understand your hesitation.
