The fact that the Ad execs and the middle aged consumer were teenagers when Slayer, Judas Priest, Ozzy and Rush were at the hight of their popularity probably has a lot to do with it.

toggletoggle post by Burnsy at Oct 30,2012 2:08pm
Troof, Kev but the fact that they see it as relevant in the mainstream enough for them to include the songs in the ads is definitely saying something.

And OP is still incorrect. There's money to be made in commercial metal but metal as a whole is RELATIVELY unpopular. I bet you that the same laptop also has other commercials that have straight up pop music.

Popular is the wrong word. Replace it with "mainstream."
it hasn't, nor will ever reach popular status. But it can reach mainstream success. I would argue that it's still more of a brooke off of the main stream, whereas the full-fledged river is popular music.

Dethklok is an example of the mainstream exposure of extreme metal.

This also has a lot to do with the popularity of guitar hero and rockband a couple of years ago.

toggletoggle post by AndrewBastard  at Oct 30,2012 2:33pm
THIS SLAYER???!!

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Oct 30,2012 2:34pm
Also, I take that back. Hair metal = popular metal. nu metal = popular. Exteeme metal will most likely never reach that status any time soon, in this country at least.

FUCK OFF THE NOWADAYS RTTP THREADS

Slayer gained popularity through their music and playing shows, never got much air/video plays in the 80's but earned their fanbase regardless. If their music got on a nowadays laptop commerical, fuck yes good for them, they have earned it, will the majority of people/consumers get the commerical, probably not, but fuck them anyways, as their beliefs are different from mine, and maybe yours too.

Do I want extreme metal to reach a pop culture status in this country, fuck no as we would water it down and make it gay.

In before Aril makes a thread called Slayer Laptop commercial Officialy the trendiest commercial of 2012.

No, I was saying pop culture would help make it even more gay and watered down, and not that extreme metal needs it, as it is doing it on its own.

could my drunkass make a list of bands right now that are guilty of this no, haha.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 30,2012 3:31pm
